3D Printing & Design
One-off parts and machines for everything else
Background
In 8th grade, I first learned about 3d printing from my librarian. She handed me the first 3d model I had ever seen or touched: a small gyroscope model. The fact that something could go from an idea to a 3d model to a physical object was amazing, and I was instantly hooked. Once I got to high school I had access to some basic 3d printers. I was upset, however, that I could never tinker with them and improve them as they were school property. So, I saved up over the course of a few months and bought a cheap 200$ 3d printer from a random vendor in China. Despite its cheap price, I still use it to this day.
Here’s a few notes about how I 3d print:
- I use Solidworks, Siemens NX, and Fusion 360 to create my CAD models.
- For slicing the model (converting the 3d model into machine language the 3d printer can understand) I mainly use Simplify3D and Cura.
- My entire 2018 internship at IBM revolved around 3d printing. You can read about it on my Experience page.
- I use 3d printing in almost all of my projects, such as my Portable Wii project and my Combat Robot.
